Olympic Tennis Daily: Zheng's history for China, Musetti bags bronze
Christopher Clarey and Romain Vinot look back on day 8 at the Paris 2024 Olympic Tennis Event, which saw a golden finish to the women's singles event for Zheng Qinwen and to the men's doubles event for Matt Ebden and John Peers.
Zheng completed her stunning run to women's singles gold by beating Donna Vekic in the final to become China's first Olympic singles champion.
Ebden and Peers, meanwhile, clinched Australia's second Olympic gold medal - emulating Mark Woodforde and Todd Woodbridge's Atlanta 1996 triumph and adding a second medal to Peers' cabinet following his mixed doubles bronze alongside Ashleigh Barty at Tokyo 2020.
Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul took bronze in the men's doubles after seeing off Czech pair Adam Pavlasek and Tomas Machac, the latter missing out on a second medal following his mixed doubles gold with Katerina Siniakova.
Lorenzo Musetti ended the day in style by defeating Felix-Auger Aliassime, who had already won mixed doubles bronze with Gaby Dabrowski, to become the first Italian in 100 years to win a medal in Olympic tennis.
