Okutoyi's singles and doubles delight at W35 Nairobi

06 Jan 2026

It was a fantastic start to the 2026 season for Kenya's Angella Okutoyi.

The 21-year-old, who is a former Junior Wimbledon doubles champion, claimed both the singles and doubles titles at W35 Nairobi on Sunday.

Okutoyi defeated Martina Colmegna 6-3 3-6 6-3 in the singles final, and played doubles alongside Zuzanna Pawlikowska for their first title as a pairing.

It was undoubtedly a big week for Okutoyi - winning her first singles title since December 2023 and her third overall on the ITF World Tennis Tour.

She also racked up her 12th doubles title on the World Tennis Tour, having amassed six last season.

Okutoyi became Kenya's first ITF World Tennis Tour singles champion in 2023, and she continues to break new ground with each victory.

Having come through the ITF’s Junior Tennis Initiative as well as being a member of the Grand Slam Player Development Programme/ITF Touring Team in 2022, Okutoyi is showing how far she has come through this pathway.

Okutoyi is currently world No. 475 in the live WTA singles rankings, and is expected to surpass her previous career-high of 491 when the rankings update next week.

If she continues the rest of the season in this rich vein of form, it could well be a breakthrough season for the rising Kenyan star.
