Obituary: Mthandazo Sibanda
The ITF is saddened to learn of the death of Mthandazo Sibanda, who passed away on 23 August at the age of 60, following a brief illness.
Sibanda worked at the Botswana Tennis Association for over 30 years in a variety of roles, notably captaining national teams in Davis Cup, Billie Jean King Cup, the All Africa Games and Africa Junior Championships, spanning two decades.
He was appointed Director of High Performance at the Botswana National Tennis Center in the 1990’s and was instrumental in the delivery of coaches’ education programmes nationwide.
A driving force behind the development of tennis, he played a major role in the introduction of Wheelchair Tennis to Botswana.
A keen amateur tennis player, Sibanda will be remembered for his outstanding dedication to tennis in Botswana, his engaging personality and will be sorely missed within the tennis community.
