Naito returns to Buenos Aires in style, while Noskova, 16, wins again
Yuki Naito made a happy return to the scene of her last tournament appearance at junior level over two years ago, claiming her first women’s title on the ITF World Tennis Tour in 19 months at W25 Buenos Aires.
The 20-year-old from Japan, who concluded her junior career with a quarter-final run at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games, overcame Brazil’s Carolina Meligeni Rodrigues Alves 1-6 6-4 6-3 in the final at the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club for her sixth ITF title.
The triumph was her fifth title on clay, fourth at W25 level and first piece of silverware since she won on Italian soil at W25 Santa Margherita Di Pula back in September 2019.
Naito, a former junior world No. 10, sits at No. 189 in the WTA rankings – 14 spots off the career-high ranking she reached in February 2020.
Meanwhile, a week after winning her first ITF World Tennis Tour title aged just 16 at W15 Bratislava, Linda Noskova was at it again at the same venue.
The Czech teenager defeated Iva Primorac 6-3 7-6(4) in the final to improve to a 10-match winning streak in the Slovakian capital.
Noskova, the current junior world No. 16 who played a starring role the Czech Republic junior Billie Jean King Cup team that finished runner-up in Lake Nona in 2019, is closing in on a place in the WTA top 800.
Japan’s Yuriko Lily Miyazaki also enjoyed a repeat triumph in 2021, adding a second title in three weeks at W15 Sharm El Sheikh after defeating Briton Matilda Mutavdzic 6-3 6-3 in the final.
Elsewhere, Italian Lucia Bronzetti, 22, claimed her second title of the year at W15 Le Havre, beating Sara Cakarevic 6-3 6-1 in the title decider, while Anastasia Kulikova collected her seventh ITF title at W15 Monastir. It was the 21-year-old Finn’s first since she won at the same venue in December 2019 – after defeating Dutchwoman Suzan Lamens 6-4 2-6 6-3 in Tunisia.
Experienced Romanian Cristina Dinu completed the list of women’s winners for the week, winning her 12th title in Antalya - and 18th career ITF title overall – after beating Mai Hontama 6-2 6-3 in the final at the W15 tournament. The title was her first in over three years – since winning at the same venue in December 2017.
