Former world No.38 Alex Molcan triumphed at M25 Reggio Emilia on Sunday, claiming his third straight title and 15th consecutive win on the ITF World Tennis Tour

The Slovakian has endured a troublesome time in tennis lately, suffering with injuries to his wrist and knee which both required surgery last year. Molcan, who was a consistent performer on the ATP Tour, hasn't played an ATP level event since Indian Wells in 2024.

Having spent the first two months of the season recovering from injury, Molcan returned to action on the World Tennis Tour in March. Understandably, his comeback got off to a rocky start with first-round losses at M25 Quinta do Lago and the Zadar Challenger.

However, he headed to M15 Antalya and rediscovered both rhythm and confidence. Molcan fought his way through the tournament, coming through tiebreaks and multiple three-setters to clinch his first title since 2021.

He played at the same venue the following week, and was barely challenged on his way to a second consecutive title. The 27-year-old didn't drop a set all week.

After several weeks of rest, the Slovakian travelled to M25 Reggio Emilia - which had an impressively stacked draw with the likes of Martin Klizan, Kyle Edmund and Liam Broady all competing.

Here, Molcan dropped just one set en route to the title, blitzing Kyle Edmund 6-2 6-1 in just over an hour in the final. This made it a third straight title and 15 wins in a row - a much-needed streak for his confidence heading into the rest of the year.

Despite his recent wins, Molcan still finds himself ranked outside the world's top 600 - hardly befitting for a player of his quality. There will undoubtedly be a big grind ahead to get him back to the top of the men's game - but he's already showing that he has the ability and drive to do so.
