Marmousez, doubles specialist Oberleitner win first ITF singles crowns
Lilian Marmousez headlined a stellar week for France on the ITF World Tennis Tour after securing his first professional singles title at M15 Monastir.
The 21-year-old saw off Spaniard David Perez Sanz 4-6 6-1 6-0 to win the Tunisia tournament and begin his 2023 season in confident fashion.
He was joined in the ITF winner’s circle this weekend by compatriots Clement Chidekh, who won his third ITF singles crown at M25 Loughborough, and Emma Lene, who won the title at W15 Forde-de-France (Martinique).
Marmousez was a strong junior, climbing as high as No. 22 in the ITF boys’ rankings and reaching the quarter-finals of the boys’ singles event at 2020 Roland Garros on his last junior outing. His first professional triumph builds on his previous best tour result - a runner-up finish at M15 Helsinki in 2001.
This weekend also saw a breakthrough singles triumph for Austrian Neil Oberleitner, who won his maiden ITF singles title on French soil at M25 Veigy-Foncenex with a 6-4 6-2 victory over Matthias Bachinger.
Oberleitner has dominated the ITF World Tennis Tour in doubles in recent years, winning a tour-leading nine titles in 2021, followed by another 11 in 2022.
Estonian Kristjan Tamm also tasted some rare singles silverware, claiming his first title in three years – and third ITF crown overall – after defeating former world No. 17 Bernard Tomic in the final at M15 Doha.
