Landaluce first 2006-born to reach quarters at an ATP Masters 1000
Spain’s Martin Landaluce is the first player born in 2006 to reach the quarter-finals of an ATP Masters 1000 event after surging into the last eight at the Miami Open. The 20-year-old will face Jiri Lehecka of Czechia for a place in the semis.
Madrid-born Landaluce is a former junior world No. 1 who won the US Open boys’ singles title in 2022 before representing Spain at the Davis Cup Junior Finals in Antalya, Turkiye later that year.
Landaluce has proceeded to win titles on the ITF World Tennis Tour and at ATP Challenger level, make his Grand Slam main draw debut and represent Spain in Davis Cup at senior level. He has now earned a little piece of Tour-level history.
It is worth nothing that for the Landaluces tennis is very much a family affair. Martin’s father, Alejandro, regularly competes – and wins titles – on the ITF World Tennis Masters Tour as tennis once again proves itself a sport for life.
