Klimovicova finds home comforts on carpet in Solarino
Some players relish home advantage. Others thrive on a rowdy crowd.
For 19-year-old Czech Linda Klimovicova, there’s no place quite like a carpeted court in Solarino, Sicily to bring out her best.
The former junior world No. 11 will no doubt broaden her horizons and discover her finest play beyond that rather niche surface-venue combination as her career on the ITF World Tennis Tour continues to develop, but for now it is serving her rather well.
Klimovicova won her third consecutive ITF women’s title on the carpet of Solarino this weekend, adding the W35 crown in Sicily to her back-to-back triumphs at the same venue last November.
The teenager did so in some style, recording second-set bagels in three straight matches en route to her fourth professional singles title.
One such victim was former world No. 15 Aravane Rezai, now 36, who returned to the game last summer after 18 months away from the court, but couldn’t make her experience count in their semi-final.
Like the catalogue of talented Czech women before her, Klimovicova is hoping to make a rapid rise from junior tennis, in which she put her name on the map by reaching the girls’ singles semi-finals at Wimbledon in 2022.
At No. 339 in the WTA rankings, Klimovicova is currently the Czech No. 19, and one of 23 Czech women in the world’s top 500.
Meanwhile, Suzan Lamens captured the biggest title of her career at W75 Trnava, beating rising Swiss teenager Celine Naef 6-2 6-2 in the title match.
The 24-year-old Dutchwoman now has six ITF singles titles to her name, having previously never won above W25 level.
