Juvan wins first title in six years at W75 Brescia

02 Jun 2025

Kaja Juvan won her first tournament since 2019 at W75 Brescia on Sunday, ending her six-year title drought.

Juvan arrived at Brescia after just missing out on Roland Garros qualification, where she reached the final round but ultimately fell to rising star Victoria Mboko. Despite the disappointment of not reaching the main draw in Paris, the Slovenian was not deterred in the slightest.

The 24-year-old was in imperious form all week in Italy, coming through qualifying and romping to the title without dropping a set - defeating the in-form Julia Grabher 7-6 7-5 in the final.

It was a brilliant week for Juvan and the title was a fitting reward for her efforts in what's been a highly impressive comeback this season.

After a year away from competing due to off-court issues, Juvan returned to action in January - and it's not taken her long to rediscover the sort of form that saw her rise to 58 in the WTA rankings back in 2022.

The Slovenian has picked up wins at every level that she's played this year - registering her first victory on the WTA Tour in over a year at Indian Wells, as well as triumphing in both her matches at the Billie Jean King Cup and of course on the ITF World Tennis Tour. Her record for the season (at all levels) now stands at 24 wins and just eight losses.

The highlight of her comeback prior to last week was at the start of May where she reached the final at Saint Malo 125 - beating the likes of Greet Minnen, Katie Volynets and Viktorija Golubic before losing to Naomi Osaka.

The comeback trail for Kaja Juvan is undoubtedly off to a great start. Starting the season ranked just inside the top 600, she's now up to 353 in the WTA rankings and is expected to be around the 250 mark when the rankings are updated next week.

If the 24 year-old continues on this trajectory, she may well be back around her career-high in no time at all.
