Johnson the youngest since Alcaraz to win ITF World Tennis Tour title
Winning a first professional title is a big moment in any player's career and Andrew Johnson of the United States has done exactly that after triumphing on the ITF World Tennis Tour at M15 Sunrise in Florida.
By winning the title aged 16 years and 176 days, Johnson is the youngest player to win an ITF World Tennis Tour men’s singles title since world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz in July 2019. Alcaraz was aged 16 years and 84 days.
He is also the second-youngest American player to win an ITF World Tennis Tour men's singles title (since men’s ITF World Tennis Tour records began in 1990) after Rhyne Williams in 2007.
Johnson is still eligible to play junior tennis and is ranked No. 16 in the ITF World Tennis Tour boys' rankings, while he was part of the United States team crowned Davis Cup Junior champions in Santiago in November.
The teenager competed at M15 Sunrise using a Junior Reserved place. Introduced in 2019 with the ITF World Tennis Tour launch, Junior Reserved places allow those with a high ITF junior ranking to contest pro events. Find out more here.
In many cases, Junior Reserved place have helped players establish themselves as they progress towards higher-level ITF World Tennis Tour events and ATP and WTA tournaments.
In 2025, 226 different players used the Junior Reserved positions on offer, using them on a combined 880 occasions. Twenty players from 15 different nations lifted silverware after entering ITF World Tennis Tour events using Junior Reserved places.
Johnson is one of two players, the other being Spain's Neus Torner Sensano who conquered all before her at W15 Manacor at the weekend, to win a title after using a Junior Reserved spot in 2026.
Previous players to have used Junior Reserved places to win ITF World Tennis Tour tournaments and progress their careers include Mirra Andreeva, Holger Rune, Zheng Qinwen, Sebastian Baez and Jakub Mensik.
