Ivanov advances along player pathway with biggest pro title of career
Bulgaria’s Ivan Ivanov continued his career progression and advance along the player pathway by claiming the biggest title of his career at M25 Tarragona on the ITF World Tennis Tour at the weekend.
Victory in the final against home favourite Alex Marti Pujolras of Spain ensured the 17-year-old scooped his first title of the 2026 and the second of his career – after winning M15 Szentendre in May 2025.
This success in the pro ranks follows an illustrious junior career which saw Ivanov seal back-to-back Junior Grand Slam titles at Wimbledon and the US Open in 2025 and finish the season as the year-end No.1-ranked boy.
In doing so Ivanov became the first junior boy since Canada’s Filip Peliwo in 2012 to win the boys’ singles titles at Wimbledon and the US Open, while fellow Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov also achieved the feat in 2008.
Ivanov, who made his Davis Cup debut for Bulgaria in September in 2025, is another player to have received financial assistance through the ITF-operated Grand Slam Player Development Programme.

The development programme is financed by the Grand Slams, but it is the ITF’s modelling which determines which players are selected for support. It aims to provide players from underrepresented nations with greater access to competitive pathways.
The programme has seen 65 players receive Grand Slam Player Grants this season, while the Grand Slam Player Development Programme has contributed more than $68m to player development since its introduction in 1986.
Varna-born Ivanov, who is ranked a career-high No. 780 in the ATP Rankings, is a three-time Grand Slam Player Grant recipient, which the financial support totalling $100,000.
Elsewhere on the ITF World Tennis Tour, having not won a title since 2023, Switzerland’s Dominic Stricker has now won two this month after conquering all before him at M25 Saint-Dizier.
Stricker is a former junior world No. 3 who won the Roland Garros boys’ title in 2020. He too is a Grand Slam Player Grant recipient having received grants of $25,000 in 2024 and 2025.
