ITF World Junior Tennis underway in 2025
ITF World Junior Tennis – the ITF’s international team competition for players aged 14 and under – is underway for the 2025 season with pre-qualifying taking place in the Asia/Oceania region.
The goal for all nations is to reach the ITF World Junior Tennis Finals, which will this year take place from 4-9 August at Tenisovy Klub Prostejov, Czechia – the home of the Finals since 1999.
Prior to the Finals, regional qualifying events take place around the world to determine the 16 boys’ teams and top 16 girls’ teams that will compete for the title of world champions in Prostejov.
The 2025 tournament was kickstarted by pre-qualifying for the girls’ event in the Asia/Oceania region. Hosted in Bahrain, a total of 18 nations – Bahrain, Bangladesh, Guam, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Macau, Maldives, Mongolia, Oman, Pacific Oceania, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Syria and Turkmenistan – competed.
Indonesia and Sri Lanka were the nations which prevailed and they now progress to Asia/Oceania final qualifying in Kuching, Malaysia in April.
They will join Australia, China, P.R., Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Rep., Malaysia, Nepal, New Zealand, Thailand and Uzbekistan. The four best-performing nations will advance to the Finals.
Pre-qualifying for the boy’s event in the Asia/Oceania region is currently taking place, while further qualifying events will be taking place around the world in the coming weeks and months.
The players selected to represent their nations in ITF World Junior Tennis do so with pride and passion, just as professional players do in major events such as the Olympic Games, Davis Cup and Billie Jean king Cup.
The competition is a real festival of junior tennis and a major developmental step for players as they continue their progression along the ITF player pathway, hopefully one day to the ATP and WTA Tours.
Indeed, many of today’s top players have honed their skills at this event, going on to represent their nations at senior level, as well as earning individual honours at the Grand Slams and on the ATP and WTA Tours.
Carlos Alcaraz, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Iga Swiatek, Andy Roddick, Coco Gauff, Bianca Andreescu, Lorenzo Musetti, Katerina Siniakova, Juan Martin del Potro, Kei Nishikori, Marketa Vondrousova, Alex de Minaur, Ash Barty, Felix Auger Aliassime and Frances Tiafoe have all represented their nations in ITF World Junior Tennis.
As always, those competing in ITF World Junior Tennis in 2025 are keeping very good company.
