ITF video star Wong boosts surge towards Top 100 with historic title
History-maker Coleman Wong won his maiden ATP Challenger title at Jiujiang to become the first player from Hong Kong to win an ATP Challenger singles title.
Wong, who won two ITF World Tennis Tour titles in 2023, conquered all before him at Jiujang without dropping a set, defeating Australia’s Adam Walton in the final, 7-5 7-6(4).
“This is my first ATP Challenger title, and to also be the first Hong Kong player to win one makes it incredibly special,” said Wong.
“The journey has not been easy, and I want to sincerely thank everyone who supported me since day one. This achievement belongs to all of you as much as it does to me.”
The biggest title of his career so far has propelled the 21-year-old to a career-high No. 110 in the ATP Rankings and within touching distance of the Top 100 – a major milestone in any player’s career.
This is the latest step in the career of a player who is clearly on an upward trajectory and one who is getting used to making history for his nation on some of the sport’s biggest stages.
In August 2025, for instance, Wong became the first man from Hong Kong in the Open Era to post a Grand Slam match-win after defeating Aleksandar Kovacevic in the opening round at the US Open.
This all followed a productive junior career in which he reached a career-high No. 11 in the ITF World Tennis Tour boys’ rankings and won two Junior Grand Slam doubles titles – at the Australian Open and US Open.
Much has contributed to Wong’s ascent, not least his own ability, dedication and hard work. A helping hand has also come in the form of financial assistance through the ITF-operated Grand Slam Player Development Programme. He is a two-time recipient of Grand Slam Player Grants totalling $50,000.
This development programme is financed by the Grand Slams, but it is the ITF’s modelling which determines the players selected for support. It aims to provide players from underrepresented nations with greater access to competitive pathways.
In 2022, the ITF produced All on the Line: Coleman Wong – a behind the scenes video which followed Wong and his coach James Allemby during the British grass-court season. Watch the video here.
