ITF President and three ITF Board members appointed to IOC commissions
The International Tennis Federation has announced that ITF President David Haggerty and three ITF Board members have been appointed as members of International Olympic Committee (IOC) commissions.
Haggerty will continue as a member of the IOC Athletes Entourage Commission, to which he was first appointed in 2016, and will also take up a role on the IOC Olympic Channel Commission.
Haggerty was elected to the IOC earlier this year and was sworn in at the 135th IOC Session in Lausanne, Switzerland in January.
Camilo Perez Lopez Moreira, who has been an IOC member since 2018 and was elected to the ITF Board in September 2019, will serve on two commissions: the IOC Olympic Programme Commission and the IOC Coordination for the Games of the XXXIV Olympiad Los Angeles 2028 Commission.
Mark Woodforde and Mary Pierce, the two athlete representatives on the ITF Board, have also been re-appointed to IOC commissions, with Woodforde continuing his membership of the IOC Communications Commission and Pierce again serving on the IOC Olympic Education Commission.
The IOC has also announced that female membership of its commissions has increased to 47.7 per cent – the highest-figure on record, and up from 45.4 per cent in 2019. The ITF is also committed to increasing the number of women in leadership positions and has seen a rise in female representation on commissions and committees from 21.3 per cent in 2014 to 33.7 per cent in 2019. As part of its gender equality strategy, Advantage All, the ITF has also set targets to increase the percentage of female ITF Board members to at least 30 per cent for the next ITF Board elections in 2023.
ITF President David Haggerty said: “It is always an honour to represent the ITF within the IOC and I look forward to working with colleagues from across the world of sport. As members of IOC commissions, Camilo, Mark, Mary and I will work to promote Olympic values and continue the long relationship between tennis and the Olympic and Paralympic movement.
“We also welcome the news that female membership of IOC commissions has increased and are pleased to see more women in leadership positions at the IOC. We are committed to achieving greater balance in our own sport through our Advantage All gender equality strategy so it is extremely encouraging to see the positive impact of the IOC’s own strategy.”
