Haddad Maia continues to dominate with third ITF title in four weeks
Beatriz Haddad Maia continued her fine form on the ITF World Tennis Tour after claiming her third title in four tournaments with victory over fellow Brazilian Ingrid Gamarra Martins at W15 Porto.
The former world No. 58, who served an anti-doping suspension between July 2019 and May 2020, is making a rapid ascent back up the WTA rankings after winning three ITF tournaments in Portugal – at W25 Montemor-O-Novo, W15 Santarem and now Porto - as well as finishing runner-up at W25+H Figueira Da Foz, where she fell to Spaniard Georgina Garcia-Perez in a tight three-set battle.
The left-handed Brazilian, currently the world No. 468, is expected to close in on the Top 400 when the latest WTA rankings are released after Roland Garros.
“I'm very happy,” she told a local media outlet in Portugal. “I had never been through [tournaments] four weeks straight. I think that all this time that I spent outside the courts, I matured.
“This gave me the strength to [forget] each lost point and always have the strength to search [for the next point].”
Meanwhile, American Grace Min, 26, won the title at W25 Prerov in Czech Republic to maintain her record of winning at least one title every year since 2014.
Min, who defeated Spaniard Georgina Garcia-Perez 6-3 0-6 7-5 in the final, collected her 12th professional title overall, all of which have come at ITF level, and ninth on clay.
The only other women’s tournament on the ITF World Tennis Tour last week saw an all-Belarusian final at W15 Monastir in Tunisia, with Yuliya Hatouka emerging triumphant on a familiar stage.
The 20-year-old, who denied last week’s winner Shalimar Talbi, 19, a repeat triumph in Monastir with a 6-3 6-2 victory in the final, collected her second title of the year - and sixth ITF title overall - having also triumphed in Monastir back in February.
