Grigelis secures a repeat triumph in Monastir
Lithuanian Laurynas Grigelis made it back-to-back titles on the ITF World Tennis Tour after winning his second title in as many weeks at M15 Monastir.
The former world No. 183 overcame four Argentine players – including Matias Franco Descotte 6-3 6-4 in the final – to collect his 26th professional singles title.
Grigelis’ recent results represent quite the turnaround from his first week in Monastir in late September, when the 29-year-old fell to a straight sets defeat in the first round, before bouncing back with consecutive titles at the same venue.
Elsewhere, Sebastian Fanselow claimed his 10th title on the ITF World Tennis Tour - and second of the year - after defeating Nuno Borges 6-4 7-6(3) to win M15 Setubal.
The 28-year-old German, who also won on Portuguese soil at M15 Faro in March, condemned Borges to a second straight defeat in ITF finals, with the 23-year-old Portugal native having also finished a runner-up at M25 Porto the previous week.
Borges bounced back in the doubles, combining with Francisco Cabral to defeat Brazilian pair Mateus Alves and Igor Marcondes 6-2 6-7(5) 10-7. It was Borges’ sixth ITF doubles title – with all of his previous wins coming alongside Cabral.
In the final men’s event of the week in Egypt, Latvia’s Martins Podzus won his seventh title on the ITF World Tennis Tour – and first of 2020 – after triumphing at M15 Sharm El Sheikh.
Podzus defeated USA’s Nick Chappell 6-4 1-6 7-5 to win the singles crown, and will close in on the career-high ranking of 418 he achieved in February as a result.
Podzus, 26, also reached the final in the doubles event, but missed the chance to make it a double triumph after he and Ukrainian partner Yuri Dzhavakian fell 6-3 6-3 to Ukrainian duo Vladyslav Manafov and Vitaliy Sachko.
