Grant set to leap into Top 200 after W75 Kosice triumph

25 May 2026

Former junior world No. 2 Tyra Caterina Grant followed back-to-back match-wins at WTA 1000 events in Madrid and Rome with the biggest title of her fledgling career to date on the ITF World Tennis Tour at W75 Kosice this weekend.

The 18-year-old qualified for Madrid last month and went on to beat Elsa Jacquemot in the first round before falling to Sorana Cirstea, before defeating Lisa Pigato for another WTA 1000 victory as a wild card in her hometown tournament in Rome. She returned to the ITF World Tennis Tour last week, understandably, brimming with confidence.

That mindset carried her through to her fourth ITF title, achieving the feat without dropping so much as a set at the Slovakian clay court event, defeating world No. 246 Caroline Werner 6-3 6-3 in Sunday's final. She is projected to crack the WTA Top 200 as a result - currently sitting at No. 182 in the live rankings.

Grant's latest victory follows a hugely promising junior career in which she reached the semi-finals at Roland Garros and the quarter-finals at the US Open. She proved prolific in doubles too, winning Grand Slam junior doubles titles at the Australian Open, Roland Garros and Wimbledon.

Grant is also a two-time Junior Billie Jean King Cup champion, having helped USA win the title in both 2023 and 2024.

Born to an Italian mother (a tennis coach) and an American father (former basketball player), she switched allegiance to compete for Italy at her hometown tournament in Rome in May 2025.

The teenager has won two of her four professional singles titles on Italian soil – at W50 Selva Gardena in 2024 and at W35 Santa Margherita di Pula this April. She

Grant was joined in winning the biggest title of her career this weekend by 25-year-old Yuki Naito, who won her first title in over five years with a significant triumph on home hard courts at W100 Takasaki.

Naito, a former world No. 169 in 2021, is set for a big jump in the rankings after Roland Garros and is set to rise from No. 437 in the world to around the 280 mark.
