Grant recipient Vallejo reaches Top 100 after ITF and Grand Slam help
Daniel Vallejo has become the third men's player from Paraguay to break the Top 100 of the ATP Rankings.
The 21-year-old is a former junior world No. 1 who advanced along the player pathway, winning ITF World Tennis Tour titles and ATP Challenger events on his way towards the Top 100.
He made his senior Davis Cup debut for Paraguay before representing his nation at the Davis Cup Junior Finals in 2019 – something of a rarity. He has since played 21 Davis Cup ties and boasts a 21-5 win-loss record in singles.
The world No. 99 has also received financial assistance through the ITF-operated Grand Slam Player Development Programme. This programme is financed by the Grand Slams, with the ITF’s modelling determining which players are selected for support.
Vallejo received Grand Slam Player Grants in 2023 and this year. He was also a member of the ITF-operated Grand Slam Player Development Programme Touring Team at the 2022 Australian Open Junior Championships when he reached the semi-finals.
Being a part of both of these programmes reflects the ITF’s commitment to supporting talented players from underrepresented nations.
Incidentally, Victor Pecci, who reached a career-high No. 9 in the world rankings in 1980, and Ramon Delgado, who peaked at No. 91 in 2007, are the other male players from Paraguay to break the Top 100.
