Julia Grabher won her most significant title yet on the ITF World Tennis Tour after overcoming Italian qualifier Lucia Bronzzetti to win the title at W60 Bellinzona.

The 24-year-old Austrian, who now has eight career ITF singles titles to her name, all on clay, negotiated a strong field at the Swiss tournament to claim her first piece of silverware since winning at W25 Klosters, also in Switzerland, in June 2019.

She leaps 54 places in the WTA rankings by virtue of her triumph – to a career-high No. 196.

Grabher’s week got off to a good start when she overcame Stephanie Wagner, who had knocked her out of her previous tournament in round two at W25 Manacor at the turn of March, and she went from strength to strength from there on. Wins over top seed Oceane Dodin, Maryna Zanevska, former world No. 23 Mona Barthel and Ekaterine Gorgodze followed, before clinching the title with a 6-2 6-3 win over Bronzetti.

Despite missing out on the title, it brought an end to a good fortnight for the Italian, who won her fourth career title at W15 Le Havre the week before, and had won just one match at W60 level prior to the Bellinzona event – at W60+H Rome back in 2009.

Elsewhere, Beatriz Haddad Maia denied Hungary’s Panna Udvardy a first piece of silverware in three and a half years after winning their clash in the final at W25 Cordoba, 6-2 6-2, for her 14th career singles title.

Haddad Maia’s triumph was her second in a row on Argentinian soil, having claimed the title at W25 Villa Maria the previous week.

Salma Djoubri won a title at W15 Monastir for the second time this year after defeating Magali Kempen 6-3 6-4 in the final in Tunisia. The 18-year-old Frenchwoman now has three ITF singles titles to her name - and climbs two spots to a new career-high ranking of 601.

Andreea Amalia Rosca won her first title of 2021 - and 11th overall – after beating Czech Miriam Kolodziejova 7-5 6-3 in the final at W15 Antalya. The tournament is something of a happy hunting ground for the Romanian, who has now lifted a singles title there on four occasions.

Jessie Aney has already racked up 29 match-wins in 2021, and she was rewarded for her perseverance with a first career singles title at W15 Shymkent. The 22-year-old American overcame Belarusian Evialina Laskevich 6-4 6-2 in the final of the clay court event in Kazakhstan.

Lee Ya-Hsuan won her 12th ITF singles title – but first since 2019 – after beating Australian Olivia Gadecki 6-3 6-3 in the final at W15 Sharm El Sheikh.

The ITF World Tennis Tour continues this week with a further six tournaments – headlined by W60 Oeiras in Portugal, where Polona Hercog is top seed. Click here to follow the latest scores and live streams.
