Entry lists announced for ANOC World Beach Games
The International Tennis Federation and the Association of National Olympic Committees have today announced the entry lists for the beach tennis event at the inaugural ANOC World Beach Games in Qatar on 12-16 October 2019.
Sixteen pairs will contest both the men’s and women’s competitions, with the confirmed entries featuring some of the world’s top beach tennis stars. Both draws comprise 11 pairs via direct acceptance, plus up to four pairs via regional representation and one wild card. A maximum of two pairs per nation is permitted in both the men’s and women’s draws.
The Games will also feature a mixed doubles competition, with up to 24 pairs set to battle for the title. The entry list for the mixed doubles will be finalised on site.
Following consultation with ANOC, the ITF is pleased to announce that a team from the host nation will take part in the mixed doubles competition. These players will not participate in the men’s and women’s doubles events. However, the participation of a host nation team in the World Beach Games is an important first step in realising the legacy plan that the ITF, together with the Qatari Tennis Federation, envisages for the development of Beach Tennis in Qatar and the wider West Asia region.
Venues including Katara Beach, Katara Cultural Village and the Al-Gharrafa Sports Club will host beach and water sports action in 13 sports during the Games.
Farivar Tanhai, ITF Beach Tennis Manager, said: “The ITF is thrilled that beach tennis will feature at the first edition of the ANOC World Beach Games, and we congratulate the players who will compete for the honour of becoming the first ever World Beach Games champions.”
Haider Farman, ANOC World Beach Games Technical Director, added: “It is fantastic to see that the ANOC World Beach Games Qatar 2019 will feature some of the world’s top beach tennis stars from 14 different countries. Beach tennis is one of 13 exciting and dynamic sports on the Games programme and we have no doubt it will deliver thrilling matches for fans in Qatar and around the world.”
