Entries announced for 2023 Wheelchair Tennis Masters events

29 Oct 2023

The International Tennis Federation has updated the entries for the 2023 NEC Wheelchair Singles Masters and ITF Wheelchair Doubles Masters.

Hosted by the Catalan Tennis Federation, the ITF's year-end wheelchair tennis championships on the UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour take place on 30 October – 5 November at the Emilio Sanchez Academy.

The entries were updated on 29 October following a withdrawal from the quad singles field, which is now completed by Canada's Robert Shaw.

Previously, men's singles world No. 7 Ruben Spaargaren was replaced in the men's singles draw by Japan's Takuya Miki, while Spaargaren and fellow Dutchman Tom Egberink's withdrawal from the men's doubles means that French partnership Geoffrey Jasiak and Guilhem Laget now complete the field of eight men's doubles partnerships.

World No.4 Momoko Ohtani of Japan had previoulsy had to withdraw from the women's singles and women's doubles due to injury. She was replaced in the women's singles entry by world No. 9 Kgothatso and Aniek van Koot will now partner fellow Dutchwoman Lizzy de Greef in the women's doubles.

Spain will become the fifth country to host the NEC Wheelchair Singles Masters and the fourth country to host the Doubles Masters, while also becoming the third country after Netherlands and USA to host the Singles Masters and Doubles Masters simultaneously.

The NEC Wheelchair Singles Masters, which was first held in 1994, is the ITF year-end championship for the world’s top eight men’s, women’s and quad singles players. A total of 24 of the world’s top singles players will contest the year-end championship.

NEC has been title sponsor of the prestigious event since its inception in 1994 and 2021 marked 30 years of NEC's sponsorship of ITF wheelchair tennis activities.

The ITF Wheelchair Doubles Masters is the ITF’s flagship wheelchair tennis doubles event. First staged in 2000, the season-ending event features the world’s top eight men’s doubles partnerships, top six women’s doubles partnerships and top four quad doubles partnerships.

Entries for the 2023 NEC Wheelchair Singles Masters and ITF Wheelchair Doubles Masters are based on the UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Singles and Doubles Rankings at the entry cut-off date of 18 September, with 38 players from 15 countries lining up to compete for this year's titles across both events.
