Bueno goes back-to-back in Ecuador to leap into Top 500
Gonzalo Bueno has enjoyed a fruitful fortnight on the ITF World Tennis Tour, winning back-to-back titles to leap into the ATP’s Top 500.
The 19-year-old Peruvian reeled off a 10-match winning streak through successive events at M15 Santo Domingo de Los Tsachilas in Ecuador – and earned a career-high ranking of No. 459 on Monday as a reward.
Bueno’s twin triumphs add to the maiden ITF singles crown he won on home soil at M15 Lima in November.
A former junior world No. 5 and a runner-up in the boys’ doubles at Roland Garros last year, Bueno, who hails from the city of Trujillo on Peru’s northwest coast, has been supported in his professional ambitions by the Grand Slam Player Development Programme and ITF Touring Teams.
A member of the touring team to North America and the US Open in 2021, he has also received ITF-administered Grand Slam Player Grants, financed by the Grand Slam Player Development Programme, over the past two years.
He is one of several up and coming talents in the men’s game from Peru, along with fellow 19-year-old Ignacio Buse.
