BOLIVIA TAKES CENTRE STAGE AS MT1000 SANTA CRUZ GETS UNDERWAY
With over 300 entries from 23 different nations, the MT1000 Santa Cruz in Bolivia promises a fiesta of tennis on the ITF World Tennis Masters Tour.
Held at the Club De Tenis Santa Cruz on 4-8 October, the tournament is Bolivia’s centre piece on the ITF Masters Tour calendar. Its MT1000 grade is testament to the efforts of tournament director Diego Manrique, alongside the Bolivian Tennis Federation, to make this a landmark event of the year.
Since its first edition in 2008, the MT1000 Santa Cruz has gone from strength to strength and the 2022 event boasts a number of top-ranked players including Australian Andrew Rae (M70), Colombian Carlos Behar (M65), Chilean Nathalie Rodriguez Boulle (W50), and Brazil's Simone Vasconcellos-Calves (W55).
As one of only two MT1000 events in South America – the other being the MT1000 Miraflores, Peru, in June – Santa Cruz offers an exciting opportunity for players to travel somewhere different. It is a sign of the popularity of the event, too, that the Santa Cruz 1000 has received such high entries in the same week as the MT1000 Capdepera, Mallorca. Both tournaments offer world class facilities and, between them, the best players on the ITF World Tennis Masters Tour.
With temperatures forecast to be breaching 30C this week in Santa Cruz, the players will have to work hard on the red clay to earn the big prizes.
