Blockx party: AO junior champion claims first ITF pro crown
Former junior world No. 1 Alexander Blockx made a milestone move on the ITF World Tennis Tour this weekend – collecting his first professional title at M25 Glasgow.
The 18-year-old Belgian defeated four British players – including Anton Matusevich 5-7 6-4 6-2 in the final – to strike it third time lucky in men’s singles finals.
Blockx, who won the Australian Open boys’ singles crown in January after edging past American Learner Tien in a fiercely contested final, has been quick to make his mark in ITF men’s competition.
He reached the final at M15 Sharm El Sheikh in March and at M25 Falun in Sweden at the turn of October, falling to Saba Purtseladze and Tibo Colson, respectively, but within four weeks of that second disappointment he’d got his first title - an early landmark in the development of any up-and-coming young player traversing the ITF pathway.

A hugely promising talent and particularly proficient on hard courts, Blockx also reached the boys’ doubles final in Melbourne in January where he fell to Americans Tien and Cooper Williams, and reached the boys’ singles quarter-finals at the 2022 US Open.
