Karim Bennani made history for his country last weekend by becoming the youngest Moroccan male player in 34 years to win a professional title.

The 18-year-old, who competed at every Grand Slam as a junior, won his first tournament at M15 Monastir - defeating Senegal's Seydina Andre in the final.

He is the youngest man from his nation to achieve this since Karim Alami, who won the Caribbean Masters in 1991.

Bennani is also the youngest male or female player from his country to have won a professional title since 1997 - highlighting a very encouraging step forward for Moroccan tennis.

He is the latest of an exciting new crop of players emerging from Morocco.

Reda Bennani, who is also 18, won his first professional title this season at M15 Tanger. Though he is seven months older than Karim, he was the youngest male player in 22 years to win a title.

21-year-old Yasmine Kabbaj also made history this year by becoming the first Moroccan woman in 21 years to win a title at W35 level.

It is undoubtedly an exciting time for the sport in Morocco, and these up-and-comers are primed to make plenty more history for their nation in the coming years.
