Antonius becomes youngest American male to win an ITF title

25 Mar 2026

Although we are only in March, a young American male has made history for the second time already this season.

Just over a month on from Andrew Johnson becoming the second youngest American male to win an ITF World Tennis Tour title, his Davis Cup Juniors teammate has overtaken him.

16-year-old Michael Antonius' win at M25 Bakersfield on Sunday has officially made him the youngest American ever to win a men's singles title on the ITF World Tennis Tour.

Antonius claimed his first title at just 16 years and 80 days old.

He leapfrogs Rhyne Williams, who held the previous record when he won USA F16 Futures aged 16 years and 108 days in July 2007.

If this was not impressive enough already, he has also become the youngest player to win an ITF World Tennis Tour men’s singles title since July 2014, when Lee Duckhee won Hong Kong F1 Futures aged 16 years and 45 days.

Antonius, who won the junior Davis Cup with the USA last season, is yet another player to emerge from an exciting crop of US tennis talent.

Given this was just Antonius' fifth event at professional level, it is a remarkable achievement to be in the history books so soon.

The youngster is set to make his debut inside the ATP top 1000 when the rankings are updated next Monday, currently sitting at world No. 842 in the live rankings.
