While a number of junior players continue to make an impact on the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour Ranking, over the last decade an increasing number of competitive opportunities have become available for Junior players internationally.
Wheelchair tennis has been a fixture at the prestigious 'Les Petits As' tournament for able-bodied junior players in Tarbes, France, since 1985 and from 1994 the Les Petits As Junior Wheelchair Tennis Cup has become an increasingly significant event for some of the top junior wheelchair tennis players internationally.
Since the Cruyff Foundation became a partner of the ITF Junior Wheelchair Tennis Programme, the event has become known as the Cruyff Foundation Junior Masters. Selection for this event is made based on the previous years November Junior Ranking.
Singles and Doubles competititons have also become a significant part of ITF International Junior Wheelchair Tennis Camps, such as the Internatonal Junior Wheelchair Tennis Camp for Europe/Africa held in the Netherlands at the same time as the Dutch Open, part of the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour. Other such camps and competitions are also held for the ITF Oceania/Asia and Americas zones and also come under the Cruyff Foundation banner.
Junior events are also becoming an increasingly significant and popular addition to the playing programme at leading tournaments on the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour, such as the Super Series events and some ITF 1 Series events.
Players taking part in the Cruyff Foundation Junior Masters, competitions at the Cruyff Foundation International Junior Wheelchair Tennis Camps and the junior events at selected NEC Tour events can earn themselves ranking points to go towards the Cruyff Foundation International Wheelchair Tennis Junior Ranking, which was launched early in 2005.
Where applicable, points earned by a player at these specific junior events will be added to any senior ranking points that player may have to arrive at a points total for the Cruyff Foundation International Wheelchair Tennis Ranking.
