The first ever Wheelchair Tennis Doubles Masters took place in 2000, alongside the Wheelchair Tennis Singles Masters in the Netherlands and annually attracts the world's very best wheelchair tennis stars.

Subsequently it was decided to give the Wheelchair Tennis Doubles Masters stand-alone status. At the 2002 Invacare World Team Cup by Camozzi in Tremosine, Italy, the International Tennis Federation's flagship annual wheelchair tennis team event, Italian fluid power specialists Camozzi publicly finalised an agreement with the International Tennis Federation (ITF).

The company became title sponsor of the Camozzi Wheelchair Tennis Doubles Masters, held in Brescia, Italy, in 2003. In 2005 the event moves to a new venue the Centro Sportivo Mario Mongodi close to Bergamo.

The Camozzi Wheelchair Tennis Doubles Masters remains the most prestigious doubles event on the international NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour and with a total prize money pool of $40, 000 it is also the most lucrative. It also carries ITF Masters Series status, bringing with it a rich pool of ranking points, and as it falls towards the end of the calendar may also decide the year-end World No 1 Doubles players in each of the Men's, Women's and Quad rankings published by the ITF
