| Stuart Wilkinson and Jayant Mistry visit India |
In October Stuart Wilkinson (GBR) and Jayant Mistry (GBR) visited India as part of the ongoing work being conducted through the Silver Fund project. India is now benefiting from a second period of ITF supported Development work and tennis in some cities is flourishing.
Delhi will host the commonwealth games in 2010 and we hope that this will be the platform for the development of wheelchair tennis in Delhi. In Mumbai there are many interested organisations and since the visit in May there has been some progress to working with these organisations.
Chennai remains the real powerbase for wheelchair Tennis in India. The support of the Tamil Nadu Tennis Association, the regional tennis association based in Chennai has been consistently strong since John Noakes and Jayant Mistry visited many years ago. Eager players and a strong tennis community have ensured that this region has produced the stronger wheelchair tennis players for many years now. Many of the players have benefited from playing in the Sri Lanka Open and we are delighted to have two athletes travelling to Malaysia this month for the Malaysia Open, both of which are part of the NEC Tour. We wish them the best of success and look forward to seeing continued growth in wheelchair tennis next year.
