| Buis beats Kruger to reach Nottingham semis |
Marjolein Buis (NED) secured her second career win over world No 9 Katharina Kruger (GER) in Friday's women's singles quarterfinals at the Nottingham Indoor, part of the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour, in Great Britain.
Kruger lost out 36 36 to world No. 12 Buis, who goes on to play last year's runner-up Aniek van Koot in an all-Dutch semi-final. Buis brings her career head-to-head record against Kruger to 2-2, while they have each won one match apiece in 2009 after Buis won just one game againt Kruger at the Bavarian Indoor.
In the day's only three set quarterfinal, van Koot beat Jordanne Whiley (GBR) 61 16 63.
With three Dutch players in the women's semifinals, fourth seed Jiske Griffioen plays French top seed Florence Gravellier. Griffioen, the 2005 champion in Nottingham, ended the title defence of Lucy Shuker (GBR) 63 64, while world No. 3 Gravellier came from behind in the first set of her quarterfinal to beat Belgian world No. 10 Annick Sevenans 75 62.
World No. 3 Maikel Scheffers (NED) led the four top seeds in to Saturday's men's main draw singles semi-finals after a 62 61 victory over David Phillipson (GBR).
Top seed Scheffers, the 2007 Nottingham Indoor champion, continues his bid to regain the title with a semifinal against French fourth seed Frederic Cattaneo. Cattaneo was 2-3 and 2-4 down in both sets of his quarterfinal against Gordon Reid (GBR) before recovering to win 63 64.
Alongside Phillipson and Reid's exits, British interest in the men's main draw singles ended when former Nottingham Indoor champion Jayant Mistry lost out in the quarterfinals to defending champion Stefan Olsson (SWE). World No. 4 Olsson dropped just the fourth game of the first set against Mistry and went on to complete a 61 62 victory that sets him up with a semifinal against third seed Ronald Vink. World No. 9 Vink won an all-Dutch quarter-final against Tom Egberink 60 63.
After a rest day in the quad singles, the semifinals in all three main draw singles events take place during Saturday's penultimate day of play at the ITF 2 Series tournament.
