| Olsson, Vergeer and Wagner win in Belgium |
Stefan Olsson (SWE), Esther Vergeer (NED) and David Wagner (USA) won the Men's, Women's and Quad Main Draw Singles titles at the Belgian Open, part of the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour, in Namur on Sunday.
Third seed Olsson completed a superb week with a comprehensive victory over second seed Martin Legner (AUT) in what was the second Men's Main Draw Singles final of the year for the Swedish world No 10. The rain that had hindered the tournament schedule half way through the week returned to force the conclusion of Sunday's final indoors, but the change of environment suited Olsson far more than it suited Legner. After leading 32 when play outdoors was suspended, Olsson was to drop just one more game when the match resumed indoors and went on to complete a 62 61 victory.
Earlier in the day before the rain came, Korie Homan (NED) once again showed that she remains arguably the strongest threat to world No 1 Vergeer's dominance in the Women's Singles. Vergeer only made the crucial breakthrough in the final two games of the first set in Sunday's final and then won the important points again in the second set to close out a 75 63 victory over the world No 2 that takes her tally of Belgian Open titles in to double figures.
In the Quad Singles final second seed Johan Andersson (SWE) made a great start, breaking world No 1 Wagner in the ninth game of the first set and then serving out to take the set and threaten Wagner's quest for a fifth successive Belgian Open title.
However, the American top seed was not about to let go of his title and broke Andersson at the start of the second set before going on to take the set 62. With the momentum now firmly in his favour, Wagner eased through the final set to seal a 46 62 60 victory and give leave him in good heart ahead of the defence of his British Open title.
