Sri Lanka and Thailand earned their places in Men's World Group 2 and the Women's World Group respectively at May's 2012 BNP Paribas World Team Cup when they won Sunday's play-offs at the Pre-qualification event for Asia/Oceania in India.
Top seeds Sri Lanka, who topped the men's round-robin group in New Delhi, defeated second seeds Malaysia for the second time in three days at the R. K. Khanna Tennis Stadium to gain a place in World Group 2 for the BNP Paribas World Team Cup in Seoul, Korea, which will be the first to be staged in Asia.
Dissanayake Gamini overcame Kee King Kong 62 61 and Upali Rajakaruna put the victory beyond doubt when he also beat Abu Samah Borhan 62 61, giving Sri Lanka a 2-0 win.
Thailand also lived up to their top seeding for the women's qualification event, also beating second seeds and former World Team Cup champions Australia for the second time in three days in the decisive play-off. Thailand wrapped up a 2-1 victory.
The closest singles rubber of any of those played over the four days of the women's event ended with Chusri Inthanin defeating Australian Luba Josevski 64 62, before former world No. 6 Sakhorn Khanthasit beat Janel Manns 6 0 6 0 to give Thailand an unassailable lead.

The qualifying competitions for Africa and Europe will both begin later in the month in Kenya and Turkey respectively.
