Maikel Scheffers and Ronald Vink (NED) will face defending champions Michael Jeremiasz (FRA) and Jayant Mistry (GBR) in Sunday's Men's final of of the 2006 Camozzi Doubles Masters in Montichiari, Italy after both the top two seeded pairings were eliminated in Saturday's semi-finals.
For the first time in four years top seeds Satoshi Saida (JPN) and Martin Legner (AUT) will not be in the final after they were beaten by Mistry and Jeremiasz on Saturday in a rematch of each of the last three finals.
Depsite beginning the defence of their title on Thursday with a 60 60 loss in their opening round robin pool match, Mistry and Jeremiasz still have the chance of retaining the title after a narrow 76(2) 64 semi-final win over Saida and Legner.
Second seeds Robin Ammerlaan (NED) and Shingo Kunieda (JPN), the pairing that started so well on Thursday by beating Jeremiasz and Mistry without dropping a game, made a simlarly impressive start to their semi-final against Scheffers and Vink, taking the first set 61. However, the Dutch duo fought back with determination to eventually prevail 16 63 64 and book their place in their first Doubles Masters finals.
As well as the semi-finals taking place on Saturday, the minor placings were also decided, with the play-offs for 5th/6th and 7th/8th contested.
Doubles Masters debutantes Frederic Cattaneo and Stephane Houdet (FRA) claimed 5th place after overcoming Swedish duo Peter Wikstrom and Stefan Olsson (SWE) in a closely fought match 46 64 64.
Meanwhile, Tadeusz Kruszelnicki (POL) and Lahcen Majdi (FRA) finihshed 7th after defeating Piotr Jaroszewski (POL) Ben Weekes (AUS) 61 62.
