For the fourth year in succession British players dominated the PTR Championships, part of the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour, which are held on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Gordon Reid and Lucy Shuker won Sunday’s men’s and women’s singles finals while Antony Cotterill and Adam Field had sealed the delayed quad doubles final earlier in the day. American top seed Bryan Barten retained the quad singles title.
World No. 9 Reid leaves Hilton Head Island unbeaten in four years in both singles and doubles after the top seed defeated his doubles partner and second seed Stephen Welch (USA) 64 62 the day after they had paired up to win the men’s doubles.
Shuker partnered Germany’s Katharina Kruger to victory in the women's doubles event for the fourth successive year before going on to regain the singles title the following day. Shuker defeated second seed Kruger 64 62 in the final and has now won the singles title at the ITF Series 2 event three times since 2009.
The final day's play started with Barten taking on David Buck in the all-American quad singles final. The world No. 10 lived up to his top seeding to secure back-to-back titles after a 64 62 win over Buck.
Saturday’s penultimate day of action came to a premature end when rain caused the quad doubles final to be suspended at 5-5 in the second set. The resumption of the match on Sunday morning saw American second seeds Greg Hasterok and David Jordan take the next two games to force the deciding set, but as in the first set top seeds Cotterill and Field won the big points to finally wrap up a 64 57 64 victory.
