Mitsuteru Moroishi of Japan won the quad singles title on the penultimate day of the Peace Cup, part of the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour, as he reversed the result of his 2011 semifinal, while Satoshi Saida and Takashi Sanada reached the men’s singles final for the second year in succession and Yui Kamiji moved to within one match of retaining the women’s singles title in Hiroshima.
Moroishi lost in two close sets to Chinese Taipei’s Tzu-Hsuan Huang in the ITF 2 Series event last year before Huang went on to lose the final a third set tiebreak. Huang was edged out in another thrilling climax once again as Moroishi managed to justify top seeing this year to wrap up the title 57 75 63.
In the men’s singles semifinals top seed Sanada beat third seed Yoshinobu Fujimoto 61 60 and second seed Saida moved to within a match of retaining his title when he beat fourth seed Yusuke Nishimura by the same score. Saida won last year’s final 64 63.
Kamiji also won her women’s singles semifinal against third seed Miho Nijo 61 60 and will now play second seed Kanako Domori, who eased into the final, too, after defeating Chinese Taipei’s fourth seed Chia-Yi Lu 63 60.
