Shingo Kunieda (JPN) celebrated a return to the World No 1 ranking with a thrilling three set victory over Michael Jeremiasz (FRA) on Saturday at Melbourne Park to collect his first Australian Wheelchair Tennis Open title.

Second seed Kunieda, already assured of returning to the top of the rankings after Jeremiasz's semi-final victory over Robin Ammerlaan (NED), edged past the defending champion and World No 3 63 36 64 in an hour and 50 minutes on Margaret Court Arena.

In the Women's Singles final World No 1 Esther Vergeer (NED) produced another peerless performance as she powered past World No 2 Florence Gravellier (FRA).
