Joseph Piattelli won the match of the day as he progressed to the quad singles quarterfinals on the first day of the Israel Open, a part of the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour.
Currently without a ranking, the former world No. 42 defeated his Israeli compatriot Yael Albag 64 36 76(4) to book his place in the last eight against Austrian third seed Peter Tatschl, the only non-Israeli player in the quad singles. Tatschl joined top seed Shraga Weinberg and second seed Boaz Kramer in having a first round bye.
The Slovak Republic's David Chabrecek and Argentina's Ezequiel Casco both secured 62 62 victories to join six players from the host nation to reach the second round of the men's main draw singles.
After all eight seeds had first round byes, Dutch top seed Tom Egberink will begin his title defence against Israel's Pini Levi.
The first matches in the women's singles will begin on the second day of play at the ITF 2 Series tournament.
