Stephane Houdet of France and Gordon Reid of Great Britain extended their unbeaten record as partnership on Wednesday night in Rotterdam after winning one of the two opening men’s doubles round robin matches at the 5th ABN AMRO World Wheelchair Tennis Tournament, part of the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour.

The 2012 US Open USTA Championships Super Series winners edged out two-time Grand Slam champions Shingo Kunieda of Japan and Maikel Scheffers of the Netherlands, who were playing their first match together since 2011, 63 76(5).

Kunieda and Scheffers will bid to get their first victory under their belt on Thursday when they take on Michael Jeremiasz and Ronald Vink after the French-Dutch duo won the other doubles match on the first night of play at the ITF 1 Series tournament. Jeremiasz and Vink beat Belgium’s Joachim Gerard and Sweden’s Stefan Olsson.

Thursday also sees the start of the men’s singles, with world No. 1 Kunieda taking on world No. 4 Vink, the champion for the last two years in Rotterdam. Also in the top half of the draw world No. 6 Olsson and world No. 9 Jeremiasz will also go head-to head.

World No. 2 Houdet will face doubles partner and world No. 7 Reid in the bottom half of the draw after the most recent meeting between the two players, at the Sydney International Open last month, ended with Houdet edging a final set tiebreak.  World No. 3 Scheffers will play world No.  8 Gerard after Gerard scored the last of his three career wins over the Dutchman in their only meeting in 2012.
