Stephane Houdet and Michael Jeremiasz (FRA) came from behind to beat defending champions Maikel Scheffers and Ronald Vink (NED) in Sunday's Men's final at the Camozzi Doubles Masters in Palazzolo, Italy.
Meanwhile, the Women's and Quad titles were both successfully retained, Jiske Griffioen and Esther Vergeer (NED) and Nick Taylor and David Wagner (USA) winning their third Camozzi Doubles Masters titles respectively.
In the Men's final second seeds Scheffers and Vink looked to be on track to keep the title they surprisingly won last year when they comfortably took the first set. However, Houdet and Jeremiasz won the crucial points to stay in the match in the second set and then with the momentum in their favour they went on to close out a 26 64 62 victory. It was a first Doubles Masters title for Houdet, while it was the second time in three years that Jeremiasz had been in the triumphant pairing, having also won with Jayant Mistry (GBR) in 2005.
Top seeds Shingo Kunieda and Satoshi Saida (JPN) also came from a set down to win the play-off for third and fourth places. Kunieda and Saida eventually proved their superiority to defeat Swedish duo Stefan Olsson and Peter Wikstrom 67 62 60.
In the Women's event Griffioen and Vergeer had dropped just six games in their three round robin pool matches to reach the final undefeated. Their opponents in Sunday's all-Dutch final, Korie Homan and Maaike Smit, inflicted Griffioen and Vergeer's only Women's Doubles defeat in 29 tournaments in August this year. However, despite improving upon their 06 26 loss to Griffioen and Vergeer in the round-robin pool phase of the competition they were unable to cause another upset as Griffioen and Vergeer secured a 63 63 victory to gain their third Camozzi Doubles Masters title.
There was also a hat-trick of titles for top seeds Taylor and Wagner. However, in a week when the defending champions had been beaten for the first time since January 2004 during the roun-robin phase, Taylor and Wagner were again pushed hard by surprise finalists Johan Andersson and Christer Jansson(SWE). Neverthless, the American duo won the points that mattered and went to prevail 64 76(7).
