Match Report

Stephane Houdet (FRA)

Stephane Houdet won his first US Open USTA Wheelchair Tennis Championships after he triumphed in an all-French men’s singles final at the final Super Series tournament on the 2012 NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour in St Louis. World No. 3 Sabine Ellerbrock of Germany was victorious in the women’s singles event while David Wagner won his 14th Super Series title in the quad singles competition.

World No. 1 Houdet, who had previously been runner-up in the tournament in 2009, powered past third seed Michael Jeremiasz (FRA) 60 60 to clinch just the second Super Series title of his career.

In the quad singles Wagner won his third US Open USTA Championships title, the world No. 2 securing his 62nd career victory over his fellow American and second seed Nick Taylor as he wrapped up a 61 61 victory.

Houdet added the men’s doubles title to his singles crown when he and Gordon Reid (GBR), the player Houdet edged out in the men’s singles semifinals, marked their first-time partnership with a 75 61 win over second seeds Gustavo Fernandez (ARG) and Jeremiasz.

Ellerbrock overcame Britain’s Lucy Shuker 63 46 61 to claim the singles title before partnering Dutchwoman Sharon Walraven to win their third women’s doubles title together this season. The top seeds defeated Yuka Chokyu (CAN) and Francisca Mardones (CHI) 64 62 in the final.

After finishing runners-up last year, top seeds Taylor and Wagner paired up to reclaim the quad doubles title with a comfortable 61 60 victory over their fellow Americans Bryan Barten and Greg Hasterok.
