Joachim Gerard and Annick Sevenans secured a Belgian double on Sunday when they won the men’s and women’s singles titles at the Open de L’Ile de Re, part of the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour, on the Ile de Re off the west coast of France.
World No. 10 and second seed Gerard, a quarterfinalist at this ITF 2 Series tournament in 2011, maintained his unbeaten record for the season over defending champion and top seed Nicolas Peifer as he defeated the Frenchman 61 36 62 in the men’s singles final. It was Gerard's fifth title of 2012.
While Gerard and Peifer went to three sets for the third time this year, Sevenans could not have been more dominant as she retained her women’s singles title with ease. The world No. 8 beat French second seed Christine Schoenn 60 60 to seal her first NEC Tour singles title of 2012.
Gerard and Sevenans’s successes came a day after Britain’s Antony Cotterill claimed his fourth ITF 2 Series quad singles title of the year by defeating Italy’s Antonio Raffaele 62 63 63.
