Argentina’s Gustavo Fernandez, who has moved up one place to No. 4 in this week’s men’s singles world rankings, heads the men’s entry for the ITF 2 Series 6th Open Memorial Santi Silvas in Olot, Spain, which is once again organised by ITF Wheelchair Tennis Ambassador Tommy Robredo and his Foundation.
The tournament is once again held in memory of Robredo’s childhood friend Santi Silvas, a former Spanish wheelchair tennis player and administrator, who passed away in 2008. Silvas began playing wheelchair tennis after being injured in a car accident, having grown up playing tennis with Robredo.
Fernandez ended the four year-unbeaten sequence of Sweden’s Stefan Olsson in 2013 and once again heads the men’s singles entry, with former world No. 2 Olsson, unseeded this year after not playing as many tournaments in the last year, again in the field.
Great Britain’s David Phillipson is the second seed, with Frenchmen Lahcen Majdi and Thomas Vinatier filling the other two seeded positions.
Great Britain’s Louise Hunt is the top seed for the women’s singles ahead of Frenchwoman Pauline Helouin, with Colombia’s Johana Martinez and Spain’s Lola Ochoa also among the leading contenders.
