Sabine Ellerbrock of Germany and Lucy Shuker of Great Britain will contest Saturday’s women’s singles final at the US Open USTA Wheelchair Tennis Championships, part of the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour, after Shuker secured her place in her first Super Series final on the third day of play in St. Louis.

All four seeds also reached the men’s singles semifinals, while Greg Hasterok was among the last three players to book their places in the quad singles semifinals after he knocked out the fourth seed.

World No. 3 and top seed Ellerbrock eased into her second Super Series semifinal of 2012 after the Japan Open champion produced a confident display to beat Chile’s Francisca Mardones 61 61.

But it was Shuker who made the main headlines of the day after the world No. 8 defeated second seed and world No. 7 Sharon Walraven of the Netherlands 62 62 to secure her second win this season over the Dutchwoman.

Top four seeds reach men’s semifinals

Argentina’s world No. 5 Gustavo Fernandez had the toughest quarterfinal of all the four seeds in the men’s singles, but the second seed came through 64 63 to beat American Stephen Welch.

Elsewhere, world No. 1 Stephane Houdet opened his challenge with a 62 60 win over his fellow Frenchman Thomas Vinatier, while third seed Michael Jeremiasz doubled the French presence in the semifinals after powering to a 61 60 victory over Australia’s Ben Weekes.

Jeremiasz will play his doubles partner Fernandez in the semifinals, while Houdet will come up against British fourth seed Gordon Reid, who ease past his French quarterfinal opponent Yoann Quilliou 61 60.

Hasterok and Hunter join top seeds in quad singles semis

With second seed Nick Taylor having already booked his place in the quad singles semifinals, his compatriot and doubles partner David Wagner also eased into the last four after the top seed defeated Francois Trawalter 62 61.

But it was the other two quarterfinals that provided the most interest as Hasterok came from a set down to beat British fourth seed Antony Cotterill 46 64 62 and Canada’s Sarah Hunter edged out American David Buck 75 64.

Hasterok will face Wagner in the semifinals, with Hunter set to take on Taylor for a place in the final.
