ITF wheelchair development officer Suzie Dyrbus visited Uruguay and Argentina last week on behalf of the Wheelchair Tennis Development Fund, supported by the Cruyff Foundation. Activity took place in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and two locations in Uruguay; Montevideo and Punta del Este.
A coaching clinic was held in Punta del Este, where a group of coaches were introduced to the activities of the ITF wheelchair tennis department alongside an on court presentation on the sport. A variety of different institutions were visited in Montevideo, including schools and different rehabilitation centres.
The visit to the Argentine capital saw a range of different coaching sessions conducted for players of differing abilities. A large number of junior players participating within the programme attended the sessions, bringing with them great enthusiasm and an eagerness to improve.
Alongside the clinics, there was also a visit to the main hospital rehabilitation centre in Argentina, where an introductory clinic was held to provide newly injured people with their first opportunity to try the sport. Participants were then invited to join in with the regular programme within Argentina.
