LONDON, GREAT BRITAIN: Sakhorn Khanthasit from Thailand produced the biggest upset of the day by knocking out number six seed Australian Daniela Di Toro.

The match was very up and down with Di Toro looking at the start to have an easy win taking the first set 6-1.  Khanthasit fought back and surprised Di Toro taking the second set 6-0.  The third set produced some of the best tennis of the match with Khanthasit winning the battle 6-3.

“I had lost one set, so I had no choice but to up my game” a thrilled Khanthasit commented following the match.  She is the only women left in the singles from a Silver Fund country.  Di Toro gave credit to her opposition’s performance saying “She played a great match today, she played to her best”. Khanthasit who is currently ranked 51 in the world is the player with the lowest ranking to remain in the competition.

Khanthasit also faced Di Toro in the doubles where the Thai pair of Khanthasit and Techamaneewat beat the Australian pair once more.  The other Silver Fund country in action was Colombia where Bernal and Villalobos were up against the Chilean pair of Martinez and Vega.  In a repeat of the Parapan American Games final the Chileans took the first set 7-6.  The Colombians however fought back to take the match in a three hour marathon 6-7  6-4 7-5.

Yui Kamiji the only Junior remaining in the women’s singles also pulled out a win knocking out Annick Sevenans of Belgium.
