Australian Open entries announced

Tennis Australia have confirmed the entries for the Optus Australian Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships 2012, a part of the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour and the first Grand Slam of the year, which takes place at Melbourne Park from 25-28 January 2012.

The top seven ranked players at the entry deadline, plus one wildcard, make up the eight players for the men's and women's events.

The top three ranked players at the entry deadline, plus one wildcard, make up the four players for the quad event.

On Thursday, 8 December, Tennis Australia and the Australian Paralympic Committee will host a launch for January's Australian leg of the 2012 NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour, which includes the Queensland Open, the Be Active Adelaide Wheelchair Tennis Open, the Melbourne Open and the Syndey International Wheelchair Tennis Open in the lead up to the Optus Australian Open.

The new-look tour will see many of the world's top players chasing valuable qualification points for London 2012 and a prize purse of $150,000.  

The launch will take place at Melbourne Park and include media opportunities with Australian players Daniela di Toro and Ben Weekes, Craig Tiley, Australian Open Tournament Director and Director of Tennis, Tennis Australia, and Michael Hartung, the Australian Paralympic Committee's General Manager, Sport.
