As a result of the continued success and expansion of the ITF Seniors Circuit, and in particular the World Team Championships, the ITF Seniors Team Rankings were introduced in 2011.
Ranking points are awarded in each of the World Team Championships age groups, enabling a separate ranking to be generated for all the nations in each group.
The rankings take into account the finishing position of nations in the Young Seniors and Seniors World Team Championships over a five-year period. The rankings for the Super-Seniors World Team Championships takes in account a three-year period.
