| Seniors/Super-Seniors World Team Championships - Overview |
Team Championships for Seniors age groups date as far back as 1958 when Leon Dubler of Switzerland presented the Dubler Cup trophy for the first time to the winning Italian team of men 45 and over.
The success of this event led the ITF to offer a full range of team competitions for 35 years olds through to men aged 80 and over and women aged 75 and over. These nineteen age categories have since been divided into two groups: the younger Seniors (35-55) players and the older Super-Seniors (60 and upwards) players.
Many of the team events are named after tennis greats such as Fred Perry and Maureen Connolly. Others are presented by National Tennis Associations which have contributed greatly to the tennis world.
As with all individual ITF Seniors tournaments the team competitions are divided into 5 year age groups. Nations nominate teams of up to four players to contest the trophies annually. The competition is played on a round robin basis, followed by a knock out in the later stages to give a complete ranking of all teams.
A full list of Seniors/Super-Seniors World Team Championships offered by the ITF is available from the Seniors and Super-Seniors Team Championships overview pages in this section of the website.
