The Bitsy Grant Cup developed out of an informal get together in the late 1970's, when American players in the over seventy-five age category came to Wimbledon and set up an match against British players. Gradually, players were invited from Europe, so the match then became USA versus Europe and the event no longer necessarily took place in Great Britain.

The Americans finally donated a trophy named after Bitsy Grant (a top class American player in pre-war years). The event first was played as an official International Seniors Team Competition in 1994.


The 2008 edition will be held in Antalya, Turkey.
