Campeonato Nacional Masters Mazda 2

MEXICO CITY, MEXICO: The Mexican seniors tennis community gathered for the Campeonato Nacional Masters Mazda Grade 2 ITF event from the 21-26th November last year. Held at the Reforma Athletic  Club in Mexico City the tournament offered events in age categories from over 35’s stretching up to over 80’s.

Players from the host nation dominated the event picking up all fourteen titles on offer across the men’s and women’s events. Current world number 10 Ricardo Langre Castellanos (MEX) won the men’s 35 age category without dropping a set and it was a similar story for Lucia Patino in the women/s 35’s too.

The men’s 60’s final was a much closer affair with the match between Alexandro Riefkohl and Eustasio Ramirez Aguirre (MEX) being deciding in a third set tie break. In the end it was Ramirez Aguirre who prevailed, clinching victory 63 46 76(6). In the women’s 60’s Alina Pinedo (MEX) beat European opposition in the semi finals and final on her way to clinching the title. Pinedo beat top seed Beatriz Meister Pardo from Switzerland in the semi’s before defeating Heiderose Toth from Austria 61 63 in the final.

A number of extra events were held for participants including a breakfast fashion show where male and female models presented new lines of tennis clothing.  A gala dinner was held where prizes were given to winners of each event as well as lifetime achievement awards to members of the Mexican Seniors tennis community. This year these awards were given to Luis Riefkohl, Karin Amoros de Riefkohl and Ercole Marziano.
